Located to the south of Bradford city centre in the Dudley Hill district, close to the inner city ring-road. The Picture Palace was opened on 9th December 1912 with “How’s Your Father”. Built for Percy Goodall, who later operated the Goodall’s Pictures circuit, the Picture Palace had seating in the stalls, with additional seating in a small balcony. The projection box was at the rear of the stalls. It was designed by architectural firm Howarth & Howarth of Cleckheaton. The red brick building has on its façade decorative white faience LEFCO ‘Marmo’ tiles manufactured by the Leeds Fireclay Company. Around 1930 it was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system.
The Picture Palace was closed in 1967 with “Thunderbirds Are Go” and “Beauty and the Beast”. It was first converted into a bingo club, and for many years it has operated as a carpet & bedding store. It was designated a Grade II Listed building by Historic England on 19th May 2016.
