Opening to the public on Friday November 20, 1970, the Martin Twin Theatres became High Point’s first-ever twin cinema. The theatre was located South of Westchester Mall Shopping Center at the corner of Westchester Drive and Whittier Avenue. Owned and operated under Martin Theatres, the Martin Twin Theatres represented the ultimate in patron luxury and convenience. On its opening night, free cigars were handled out to the first 250 men entering the theatre, while free orchids were given on opening night to the first 250 women who entered the theatre. The opening attractions for the Martin Twin Theatres on November 20, 1970 were on Screen 1 was the re-released of Walt Disney’s “Son of Flubber”, while on Screen 2 featured Richard Benjamin and Carrie Sondgress in “Diary of a Mad Housewife”. It remained in business until its closing in the late-1990’s when it was under Carmike Cinemas

CORRECTION: Seating capacity for both auditoriums seated 600 totaling 1,200 seats.
Only the original STAR WARS movie played here first-run on July 1,1977 at High Point’s Martin Twin.
“THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK” & “RETURN OF THE JEDI” did not played first run at the Martin Twin. Those two sequels to Star Wars played first-run at High Point’s Capri Triple and not at the Martin Twin.
By the late-1980’s the Martin Twin became a discount cinema under Carmike until its closing in 1995.
