The High Point Enterprise described the Orpheum Theatre opening on January 5, 1920, with a musical show and a Mack Sennett comedy, charging night-time admissions of 25 and 35 cents.
On May 19, 1930 the 800-seat New Orpheum Theatre opened with sound pictures featuring Edward Everett Horton and Louise Fazenda in “Wide Open”.
The Orpheum Theatre dropped out of the listings in 1931 and by 1933 it was referred to as the old Orpheum Theatre,
On April 10, 1938, the High Point Enterprise reported the old Orpheum Theatre was in the process of demolition to be completed by May 1. Two months before North Carolina Theatres Inc. announced their intentions to build a new theatre on the site.
On January 30, 1939, the Center Theatre opened on the site.
