The Hi-Way 28 Drive-In opened on June 7, 1961, with a soft opening. The Grand Opening Night was June 14, 1961 screening the 1960 comedy “Cinderfella” with Jerry Lewis, Anna Marie Alberghetti, Ed Wynn and Henry Silva. The second feature of that evening was the 1960 adventure “The Time Machine” with Rod Taylor, Yvette Mimieux and Alan Young. It had a car capacity of 450 cars with in-a-car speakers. The drive-in was opened by Frank Weitzel with Theatre Owners Corp.(TOC) as the buying and booking agency. Later on it was sold to Ben Cohen, dba Holiday Amusements Co. from Hamilton, OH. It closed at the end of the 1987 season. It is now commercial property.

My father worked as a guard at that drive in 1967-1978… I remember he would get there around 6:pm Me and my brothers and sisters would go to the playground and if we wanted to go fishing at the little pond next to the playground we got free drinks and popcorn because my dad working there we were only aloud to watch the first movie then we had to go to bed the next morning we would go with him to help clean up/pick up trash the drive in closed in 1987, In its day it was always full, as a child I would see the projection room with its great big reels.

no sadly, No pictures that I know of just memories, I was born in 1964 so I was just a child
had to sign up to find this place. i was looking for my old house to see if it still stands. sadly it is gone.i used to live next to this. and was there the day it shut down. used to set on my barn and watch movies. there was a playground next to my fence that i used to play on after they shut down :( there is also a history of horses running throw there drive lol. my horses broke lose one night after someone from that place was creeping around my barn. i can not believe i am looking at this place again :(

I attended this drive-in from
61 until66 than to Vietnam. I have several playbills from there and a take-up reel. My friend lived next door and work the concession. I have a couple photos but they are inside my car with the speakers outside.nashville…can scan the pictures and post them.
