Sunset Drive-In

Set in East Tennessee, this Morristown city drive-in parked 189 cars making it that city’s smallest drive-in. The Ski-line Drive-In was owned by G.D. Baker, and opened on September 22, 1947 with Frances Langford in “The Bamboo Blond”. Within its first season it was renamed Syline Drive-In. By 1955, it had expanded to a capacity for 325 cars and A.E. Rook had joined G.D. Baker as operators. On November 22, 1959 it was renamed Sunset Drive-In screening Robert Stack in “John Paul Jones”.

There was a drive-in located at about 3932 US 11E East, give or take a few lots. There doesn’t appear to be any trace of this theater. There was another drive-in at or around 2296 US 11E West. This area is all commercial sprawl now.

Right where the T shaped driveway is now, used to be the place you’re talking about.

However, the name of the town needs to be changed to Morristown. Does anyone check maps before submitting theaters?

Try this link instead, the other link pops up an info box and moves you away from the location.

3630 E. Andrew Johnson Hwy is the closest spot.

I was going by what my 1956 Motion Picture Almanac had.I assumed they knew.I thought it was Morristown, but kept seeing Morriston,They have messed up more than a few city names to where i even hate putting a town down, but have to,Silicon SAM.

Just type the town and state into Google and see if it even maps out. If not, then the town no longer exists or it’s misspelled, which is more likely. And an incorrect ZIP code can throw things off too.

The correct address for the Skyline Drive-In is 2328 W. Andrew Johnson Hwy, Morristown, TN 37814. The two aerial photos posted here are not the Skyline. They are actually shots of the King Ridge Drive-In, which is on the east side of Morristown. Comparing these photos with the Historic Aerial satellite shots verifies this. Also, the Skyline was renamed Sunset on November 22, 1959.
