H.C. Gildard took on the Myers-Stubblefield Hat Company and made news by creating the first movie theatre in Morristown’s history. The Wonderland Theatre launched on December 14, 1907 with films, music, dissolving views, illustrated songs and vaudeville by the Southern Circuit. Admission price was a dime.
I.W. Topping of the nearby Reads Opera House acquired the Wonderland Theatre in May of 1908. He closed Reads Opera House and programmed the Wonderland Theatre after a refresh. Admission ranged from a nickel to a dime. Under new operator Charles Witt, live programming was dropped in 1910 with moving pictures the draw. The Wonderland Theatre closed early in 1911 and the Gamble Building was converted for other retail purposes.
The Gamble Building was later demolished.
