Located in the former East Berlin district of Mitte, and opened in 1963, the Kino International is a jewel of Socialist cinema building. Two opulent and spacious foyers and a uniquely decorated screening hall are outstanding among the usually rather spartanian and functional German cinemas. It was closed for a major refurbishment in late-summer 2024 and is planned to reopen in 2026.

The Kino International is designated a Landmark Listed building.

I recently visited Berlin and found time to photograph some of it’s gorgeous and less gorgeous cinemas, the Kino International being one of them. See photos of the exterior and closeups of the sculptures on the outside walls on my flickr stream: View link
