Located in the Markham district to the north of Toronto. The Parkway Drive-In was one of the last drive-ins to be constructed in the Toronto area when it opened September 1, 1966 with Carl Reiner in “The Russians Are Coming the Russians Are Coming” & Patty Duke in Billie". It featured oversized parking spots, which gave patrons lots of room for their cars and themselves to enjoy the movies. It also featured a huge snack bar decorated with brown floors, and yellow and pumpkin orange snack bar counters.
Canadian Odeon felt that yellow and pumpkin orange subliminally triggered people to want to buy snacks during intermission. The Parkway Drive-In was the only drive-in in the Toronto area that didn’t have AM radio sound in the 1980’s. It was closed on October 10, 1985 with Chuck Norris in “Invasion U.S.A.” & Edwin Neal in “Future Kill”.
