The Roxy Theatre closed later than 1955. I saw Imitation of Life (1959) starring Lana Turner and John Gavin, Sapphire (1959), Journey to the Center of the Earth (1959) and The Ten Commandments (1956) starring Charlton Heston at the Roxy. My brother also remembers going to the Roxy through his high school years. He graduated from high school in 1963. We lived within walking distance of the Roxy.

Also in a Houston City Directory dated 1935 I saw a listing for a Washington Theatre located at 2737 Lyons Avenue. Maybe there was a name change, or the Roxy replaced the Washington Theatre.
