The Varia Drive-In was opened October 20, 1950 with William Holden in “Father is a Bachelor”. It was operated by T.G. Solomon. He also operated three other dive-in’s in Jackson, MS; the 51 Drive-In, the Highway 80 Drive-In and the Skyvue Drive-In.
The Varia Drive-In was still operating in Jackson, Mississippi in 1963 and closed sometime in the 1970’s. It was operated by Gulf States Theatres from 1963 until 1975.

What was cool about passing the Varia Drive-In was the Alamo Motel next to it and the Borden Milk Company on the other side with that giant cow on the sign. Saw THE WIZARD OF MARS here.
Approx. address for this drive-in was 1101 Hwy 80W. Now Hayles Towing.
There was another drive-in about ¾ mile to the west, also on US 80 near Valley Street. I-20 goes over it now. Does anyone know the name of that drive-in?
Could that have been the Showtown Drive-In, Highway 80W and Shaw Road?
October 20th, 1950 grand opening ad in photo section.
Opened on 20/10/1950 with “Father is a bachelor”.
Why the name Varia? Is the Alamo Motel and the Borden Milk Company still there on either side? Whats on the Varia Drive-in Theatre site now?
No NY. THAT was the Jackson. The Showtown Bulldog & Rebel was located 4755 US Hwy 80. That old highway had 5 D/I’s! 😳😍
