Located in Penrhyndeudraeth, near Caernarfon. Built as a Community Hall in around 1926, it is very much in the style of numerous Memorial Hall’s built to commemorate the dead of World War I throughout Wales.
It was first used as a cinema in around 1930, by a Mr. Griffiths of Harlech, who also controlled the cinema in Morfa Nefyn at the time. He fitted the venue with a British Talking Pictures sound system. By 1944 it became part of Guy Bakers Paramount Picture Theatres circuit when prices were from 7d to 2/3. Baker closed the Merion Cinema in 1960.
Since then the auditorium has been reduced to provide extra space in the entrance area and the former projection box has been enlarged to create a meeting room. The hall has now returned to its original function as an all purpose hall for the community.
