Located adjacent to the old Tivoli Theatre, this began its entertainment use as the Tivoli Tourist Station, which was similar to, and a rival to, Hale’s Tours of the World, which presented movie views photographed along a railway line.
It was taken over by Electric Theatres(1908) Ltd. and was converted into the Theatre de Luxe, opening in December 1908. Seating for 170 was on a single floor, and the auditorium was decorated like a baronial hall, with an oak-beamed ceiling.
A road widening scheme was proposed for the Strand in 1912, and the Theatre de Luxe was set to close. It screened the film "Dantes Inferno" for a couple of months. The roadworks were delayed, and the Theatre de Luxe eventually closed in February 1914. However, due to World War I, the building was left standing empty, and road widening was not carried out until 1922.
The old Tivoli Theatre and the Theatre de Luxe were then demolished and a new Tivoli Theatre built on the site. It opened in 1923, and was demolished in 1957.
