Opened with a Walt Disney cartoon(not named), a comedy(not named), news, and “His girl Friday”.
doesn’t mater where the address is in my book because the screen is gone!
Not that it really matters a whole lot but the above address is for the adjacent property to where the drive in was. 527 Sand Bar Ferry Rd, Augusta, GA 30901 is actually where the theater was, and I cannot see any trace of anything left either aerial wise or Street View, and the Google car went down the street that was behind the screen when it was standing.
The address for this drive-in was 551 Sand Bar Ferry Rd.

This opened on June 6th, 1940 as Drive-In Theatre. I placed the grand opening ad as well as an aerial photo here.
Good post ,Cajun.“MARTIN LUTHER” has a big ad in paper.It is also playing at Forest Hills drive-in.Admission was $1.13. three color cartoons.“Martin Luther” at the Augusta Drive-in.
In the early 1950’s I talked my mom into taking me to a midnight double horror show at the Augusta Drive-In, my first ever. The features were two old 1930’s Universal horror re-releases, “The Raven” and “Dracula’s Daughter”. It rained through most of it. Why can I remember that in such detail, but I can’t remember what I went to the store for this morning?
Well, June 8 1957 it was surprize night no titles listed in the paper!Show starts at Dusk.Always a cartoon.

It is in such a bad part of Augusta I don’t drive over there,but at one time the screen or parts up it were up.Almost right on the River.

The Augusta Drive-In was the first and for many years the only drive-in. I believe it opened around 1940. When the hydrogen bomb plant was under construction and thousands of constuction workers moved in several more opened. I remember the Sky View, Highway One, Forest Hills, Hilltop, Cloverleaf among others. The Sky View was the most popular during my teen dating years and yes we did smuggle people in inside the car trunk.

Oh it is a very bad part of town,I really look out of place there,and I am afraid a cop will pull be over thinking I am looking for drugs,even though i would be innocent.
I don’t even know where Nick is I sent him a letter.he would be your best bet.I posted a article at National Hills and hope Robin sees it,She must be having problems with her A.C. at home.I guees i could call her and tell her gang is worried.

Part of that large screen is STILL standing,but might get mugged if one stopped and took a picture.Very Bad part of Town.

I have some great ads if you can sweet talk Robin into putting them on. I sent quite a bit and Nick too,but like I said I don’t know what is with Nick. I know he has a aging father and a older aunt he takes care of. He has his hands full.

Augusta drive-in parked 315 cars and was owned by Augusta Drive-in Circuit. Don’t know how i left it off the header.
