Berchem Palace

In Antwerpen the Berchem district is the railway station before Antwerpen Central. The Palace Cinema was opened in the late-1920’s, under the direction of George Heylen who owned the Flora Cinema(later Orly Cinema)in the district Statielei near the station. The other cinemas in the district were the Corso Cinema, Drie Koning Straat and in the same street was the De Leeuw Cinema which was already closed in the early-1960’s. The Palace Cinema often showed films concurrent with the Roma Cinema in Borgherout, like “The Bridge on the River Kwai” third run in Antwerpen after the Rex Cinema, Capitole Cinema and Regina Cinema. Another example was “Spartacus”.

The Palace Cinema closed on 30th June 1983. It is now used as an auction house named CAMPO.
