The Anvers-Palace was opened in 1915. It was designed by an architect named Hamaide. In 1936 it was re-modeled in a Streamline Moderne style to the plans of architect Leon Stynen. During World War II it was a soldiers cinema for the occupying German soldiers. It was badly damaged by a bomb towards the end of World War II.

In 1950 architect Rie Haan was employed to draw plans for a rebuilt cinema on the site. It was taken over by the Georges Heylen chain and was closed in 1968.

It was demolished and the Empire Shopping Centre and Empire Hotel were built on the site.
