Riga Cinema

This was the second cinema on the Chaussee d'Helmet in the Schaerbeek district, and opened in 1933. It was under the same management as the Edison(later Capri), Artistic(later Pigalle) and Varietes(later Elite). First opened as the Rex Cinema, there were three Rex cinemas in Brussels. In Etterbeek(later Novelty), in Brussels Nord(former Pantheon, later Odeon). All of them changed their names after World War II.

This one became Riga Cinema in the 1950’s was and was equipped for Cinemascope with a big screen, although the programming was often for adults. Exceptions were “The Bridge on the River Kwai” in 1959, and “King Creole” was shown there in 1960. It finally closed in 1964
