Opened in the summer of 1973, in an effort to remain open this small, independently operated strip shopping center theatre adopted an adult film policy in 1975.
As a result of continued community opposition and demonstrations, declining business due to the availability of home videos and certain eviction at the expiration of its lease by the new landlord, this theatre quietly expired in summer of 1983.
The space has subsequently been used by a series of eateries, including Fatty Beltbuckles. It is now in use as a travel agency.
The closure in 1980 has been confirmed by newspaper reports, but, interestingly, the date of the adult film policy has been established from an individual whose son was caught trying to get into the theatre just after celebrating his sixteenth birthday which was just after the change.

Newsday archives show adult films playing since July 1973 which seems to have been when it opened.
Per my source when I created this site, it wasn’t always adult despite the two year discrepancy in the date. Interested to see what you found in the Newsday archives.
According to a shared ad with the Ronkonkoma Art Cinema and the Regent in Bay Shore appearing in the Newsday Vault classic edition of May 18, 1983, the theater lasted longer than the impression given in the blurb.
The Rocky Point Cinema opened on June 28th, 1972. Grand opening ad posted.
