Rialto Theater...Rock Springs Wyoming

The Rialto Theater was built around 1920. I don’t know when the Rialto Theater closed but it is still listed in the 1955 edition of Film Daily Yearbook with 1,125 seats.

Didn’t realize there was an Adam’s Rib prior to the Tracy – Hepburn film.

From the 1920s a postcard view of the Rialto Theater in Rock Springs.

The Rialto can be seen at the far right of a black & white photo taken of a Union Pacific RR steam-powered westbound freight train chuffing through Rock Springs on October 28, 1956, published in the Spring 2013 issue of “Classic Trains” Magazine. The theater is too far distant to read what’s posted on the marquee, but it definitely is the same building as shown in old postcards posted above.

Multiple images added. One is a 1921 promotional ad image that reads it had “Capacity 1,266” at that time.

Appears from street view to have been demolished. The organ was moved to the Sweetwater County Historical Museum in 2005 per the below link.

Address was 310 S. Front Street per the Rock Springs Historical Museum. It was owned and operated by Thomas Bertha, who later bought out the the Lyric and Oracle Theatres both located at 545 N. Front Street which both operated at the same time. He bought those two theatres to stop the competition. I will set up a page for those theatres, which later became the Rex Hotel and remains standing. The Lyric and Oracle are not to be confused with the other Lyric Theatre at 405 N. Front Street, which has it’s own page.
