E.L. Black opened the Ritz Theater on June 23, 1933. W.S. Hurst took the Ritz Theater over in 1937, and renamed it the Plaza Theater. Hurst in turn sold out to C.O. Simmons in 1949. F.M. Autry bought the Plaza Theater in 1952 and it shut down in December of 1956.

It was reopened as the Student Art Theatre, and ended its life as an adult theatre.

This was the Student Art theater in the 1960’s. I saw PT 109 here. Later was an adult movie house known locally as the Rathole. Closed in 1973 or 1974 after repeated fines for violation of city codes concerning display of indecent posters in marquee.

Wasn’t the Plaza Theatre in the building that is now Andy’s Bar, on the southeast corner of Locust and Oak? Because the Internet gives the address of 122 N. Locust Street for Andy’s Bar. That might be what has confused Google Maps into putting its pin icon up north of Pecan Street. There is no 121 N. Locust.
