Kismet Temple

Built for a Shriner chapter named Ancient Arabic Order of the Mystic Shrine, the Kismet Temple is located between Fulton Street and Atlantic Avenue. There was a pipe organ installed. It was used for various functions by different organisations, but not open to the general public. The building was equipped to screen movies, and in 1932 it was listed as a movie theatre. In the 1930’s a series of Sunday band concerts were held here.

It later became the Friendship Baptist Church and is still in use as such. The Kismet Temple is on the National Register of Historic Places.

I don’t understand the location as all three streets run from east to west & follow one another. Walking from North to South one would pass Fulton St., Hermkimer St. & Atlantic Ave, as the streets follow one another consecutively. What was the cross street where the theatre was located?

The closest cross street is Nostrand Avenue. In the opposite direction but much further away is Bedford Avenue.

A 1921 ad for the Kismet Temple gives the number of auditorium seats as 2300.
