Cinema Theatre

The Rex Theatre was a block from the Saenger Theatre and was opened on November 12, 1938 with Dennis O'Keefe in “Vacation from Love”. By 1941 the Rex Theatre was operated by Paramount Pictures Inc. through their subsidiary E.V. Richards. It closed in September 1962, but reopened December 19, 1963, renamed Cinema Theatre and operated by ABC Mid-South Theatres. It was closed on April 20, 1968 with Anthony Quinn in “The Happening”.

This opened in 1936 as Rex and renamed as a art cinema called Cinema. December 19th, 1963 grand opening ad in photo section.

The original Rex Theatre opened December 7, 1911 in the Lund Building on Front Street as a motion picture house.

Its actually Cinema Theatre, not just Cinema. ABC Mid-South Theatres briefly last operated the Cinema Theatre who closed the theater on April 20, 1968 with “The Happening”.
