This twin drive-in was opened by Consolidated Theatres on September 10, 1969 with Dustin Hoffman in “The Graduate” & Oskar Werner in “Interlude” on screen 1 & Paul Newman in “Winning” & Andy Griffith in “Angel in My Pocket” on screen 2. In the 1970’s it was one of nine Charlotte drive-ins. It was closed in 1981.

I visted the ruins one time only to find homeless people living in the Box Office.Needless To Say,I didn’t stay long!
Friend in Charlotte shot video that day i was exploring,but have never gotten a copy.he has probably lost the VHS tape it was on.Also shot VHS of the old Fox Drive-in.
Approx. address for this drive-in was 3121 Freedom Drive. The entrance and exit driveways are partially there.
Now part of the Berry Academy of Techology. North field is now the track. South field is now the baseball field and tennis courts.
Why the name Viking?
The Viking Drive-In opened on September 10th, 1969 by Consolidated Theatres. Grand opening ad posted.
Closed in 1981.
Opened with on screen 1 with “The Graduate” and “Interude” and screnn 2 with “Winning” and “Angel in my pocket”.
