The Albermarle Road Drive-In opened on September 29, 1949 with Rod Cameron in “The Plunderers”. It was operated by Harris Robinson and Dixie Drive-In Theatres Ct. On September 21, 1973 it was renamed the Big A Drive-In when the road name was changed to Central Avenue. It operated into the late-1970’s and has since been demolished. A church now operates on the site.

we lived down the street behind the theater, so we saw a lot of free movies……
Man, i would ave loved to be that close to a Drive-in. Have a friend here in Augusta and the WEIS DRIVE-In supplied entertainment for a whole row of houses. During the summer, families would set up yard chairs and enjoy the movies and he said for the most part you could hear fine.
It was actually called the Albemarle Rd Drive-in even though Albemarle Rd was about a mile or so away.
Until recently, 2009, the perimeter aluminum fence still stood next to the church.
This is the first place I ever saw the Beatles in a short film just before they made it big. I was 7 or 8.
