Owned and operated by General Cinema Corporation, the Hanes Mall Cinema I-II-III-IV opened on December 22, 1976 with “The Enforcer”, “The Front”, “A Star is Born” and “Silver Streak”. The theatre was located around the back of the shopping center opposite Stratford Road and near Interstate 40 and Silas Creek Parkway. This was the third GC theatre to open in North Carolina (the others were in located in Charlotte, Fayetteville) under the GC banner. This was the first to open in Winston-Salem area, and the first one in the Triad.
The Hanes Mall Cinema was closed on October 19, 2000, when Carmike Cinemas began building a huge 12-screen megaplex just down the street from the Hanes Mall.
