Opened on November 24, 1913, the Majestic Theatre was built by Karl Hoblitzelle’s Interstate Theatres circuit, who appointed architect John Eberson to design one of his earliest Atmospheric style theatres. Here the sky was viewed through lattice work in the ceiling.
When the ‘new’ Eberson designed Majestic Theatre opened on December 7, 1929, this theatre was renamed State Theatre 10 days later. In the 1940’s it was operated by Paramount Pictures Inc. through their subsidiary Hoblitzelle & O'Donnell.
The State Theatre was closed in the 1950’s and was demolished, to provide parking spaces for the Stowers Furniture Co. store, located next door.

This is from the San Antonio Express, dated 12/16/35:
At the close of the current showing of John Wayne in “Westward Ho,” Monday, the State Theater will close to allow for extensive remodeling. The theater will be completely renovated, redecorated and painted, recarpeted throughout and new seats of latest type installed.
The theater will reopen Christmas Day and will present on their opening program Clark Gable, Jean Harlow and Wallace Beery in “China Seasâ€, the thrilling red-blooded drama of adventure and romance in the Orient along the China coast. The feature will be augmented with a carefully chosen group of featurettes.
This theatre actually opened on 20 Nov 1913.
The Majestic theatre was supposed to open on November 20th, 1913 but postponed to the 24th. Grand opening ad posted. It reopened as the State theatre on December 7th, 1929 with “Welcome Danger” and the Majestic name moved 10 days later to the new building. Another ad posted.
