Designed by Messrs. Fairhurst & Poppleton, the Vale opened on October 23, 1939 with "There Goes My Heart". The foyer was large and had a shop on either side, above was a 150-seat café.
The auditorium in Art Deco style seated 1000 in the stalls and single balcony. It closed and became a bingo casino in the early 1960’s but made a return to films when the balcony was split into 2 mini cinemas with the former stalls continuing on bingo. These opened in 1972.
In the 1980’s, the bingo operation moved to the former café and snooker took over in the auditorium downstairs.
The cinemas closed in February 1994 – it has not been possible to ascertain if they are intact. A nightclub existed in the upstairs area until recently but this may have been the café area. A Creative Arts House now occupies the building.

It looks like a former shop unit and maybe part of the foyer area is being used by the DebRA charity shop.
The Directory of Cinemas 1980 lists the Vale Centre, as a 3-screen operation. Screen 1;98 seats, Screen 2;96 seats and Screen 3;500 seats (opening in 1980). I wonder if the 500 seat screen (possibly in the former stalls area actually opened?
In 2015 an art gallery is up the cinema access stairs to the left, which they told me had been used for bingo with the cinema above. The street levels includes Cafe53
Opened as the Regent Cinema, name changed later to Vale.
Streetview now shows the building as being an Arts Hub.
