News About This Theater
- Sep 30, 2013 — Culpeper theaters partner for more classic cinema
The 205-seat Mt. Pony Theater opened in 2008 at the Packard Campus of the Library of Congress' National Audio-Visual Conservation Center in Culpeper, VA.
The theater screens film and other media from its enormous moving image collection. The theater is one of five venues in the country capable of projecting nitrate film stock. All screenings are free, but reservations are recommended.
Thanks to George R. Willeman, Nitrate Film Vault Leader for the Library of Congress, for the following description of the theater decorations, which were funded and chosen by donor David Packard: The chandeliers are reproductions like those that survive in the Warner Grand Theatre in San Pedro, CA. Wall fabrics were imported from Italy. The carpet woven in Belgium on a Jacquard Loom, is the same pattern of carpet that David Packard also donated in the Stanford Theater in Palo Alto, CA. The organ is an exact electronic reproduction of a 1929 mighty Wurlitzer organ that rises from the floor for special performances. It has over 30 speakers in the walls.
