The Palace Theater opened in August 1926. It operated as a vaudeville and movie theater for the African American community and was a TOBA theatre. In 1928 it was purchased by its manager Milton Starr. Bessie Smith is known to have appeared here. It was still open in 1950.

An African American theater - reportedly the only one that was Black Owned in Alabama at that time.
