The Plaza Cinema was located next to Pizza Hut, and just outside the parking lot of the former K-Mart shopping center (the current location of Lowes Hardware).

The theater first closed around 1990 and the building was occupied by a short-lived restaurant. The building was empty for years after that, until a new owner purchased and re-opened it around June 1995. The first movie to play upon it’s re-opening was "Casper".

The building was bought and demolished in the fall of 1999 to make room for Lowes hardware store’s parking lot.
Pascagoula has been without a movie theater ever since.

The Plaza Theatre was opened in 1976 by Gulf States Theatres. They had a huge opening contest to name the theatre and the winner was Twin Cinema. In the next shopping center over was the single screen Towne Theatre. The Towne closed six months after the Twin opened. Gulf States also operated The Ritz Theatre, downtown, along with the Moss Point Cinema, The Lake Drive-In and The Super Twin Drive-In. Gulf States Theatres sold all their theatres to United Artists in 1986. United Artists allowed the lease to expire in 1990.

All the big films played this theatre during its heyday with “Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind being on the biggest grosser. Dollar Tuesdays was always packed with crowds standing in the parking lot trying to buy tickets. But despite this theatre’s popularity, The Towne Theatre was always in everyone’s heart.

Just for kicks, the last movie that I saw at Twin Cinema was “Tommorrow Never Dies”.
