I saw the last movie to play at the Ritz. It was Hercules starring Lou Ferrigno. That was around August or September of 1983. There was no word at all of the theatre closing. All of a sudden they just shut down. As far as the inside of the theatre, it did have a balcony.
PLEASE CHANGE ADDRESS TO:
729 WATTS AVENUE
Pascagoula MS 39567
Thanks
WHAT’S WITH THIS SILLYNESS OF ALWAYS HAVING TO GO THROUGH THESE EXTRA STEPS TO “ALL THEATERS” ALL THE TIME?
Actually the original address for the Ritz was 3206 Pascagoula St., The Watts address is for the entrance in the side that the current occupants have made.
Thanks Chris, for correcting the address.
This started life as the “New Ritz Theatre”. Unfortunately I cannot find its opening date but this opened in 1938.
Gulf State Theatres last operated the Ritz until closing in 1984. In March 1985, it was announced that the theater building will be renovated and would use as an office complex.
The Ritz launched January 26, 1938 With “The Awful Truth” and an opening address from the honorable mayor Frank Canty who congratulated owners J. Oliver Cole and E. Forest Grant. Cole and Grant also operated the Nelson Theatre which would become the Pix Theatre about four years later.
