Public Hall Cinema Alexandra

As the name suggests, this was originally a Public Hall, built in 1862. It has a Classical ‘temple’ style facade with a Doric portico.

In the early 1930’s it was converted into a cinema and an Art Moderne style bay was erected on each side of the front of the building. The interior was also given a modern make-over and seating was provided in stalls and circle levels.

The Public Hall Cinema closed around 1973 and then has operated as an independent bingo club, lastly the County Bingo Club which closed in 2009. The building is now in use as a furniture store.

On 29th March 1996, Historic Scotland designated the Public Hall Cinema a Grade B Listed building.
