Buzz Bingo’s regional manager, Mike Ellis, said: “We’re incredibly proud of our Buzz Bingo Shrewsbury community and our colleagues, and we understand how upsetting this news will be.” “This closure is not a reflection of the people who made the club so special. "We’d like to thank all Shrewsbury customers for their loyalty, support, and the many memories shared in this remarkable venue”. A masterplan for the future of the town centre published in 2021, The Big Town Plan, identified the building as having potential for development. “The Grade II listed Granada Cinema located on Castle Gates is currently being used as a neglected bingo hall. "The building deserves to be restored to its former glory, with a more suitable occupant to secure its vibrant future,” it said.
Buzz Bingo is set to close on 31st January, 2026.
What a great photo & strange coincidence. I saw “On Her Majestys Secret Service” when it first came out, with my father & brother at Chicago’s Granada Theatre.
I have since also read various back stories on the choice of George Lazenby playing James Bond. Apparently British actor Oliver Reed had at one time been considered as a replacement for Sean Connery.
But the studio didn’t think they could counter the varied legendary drinking escapades that Reed was then embarking on, in the press.
Although with Reed’s brooding delivery style, I think he would have been excellent as Bond. Much like Daniel Craig, the current Bond.
The Granada around 1969/1970.
