Litchfield is a small town located about 60 miles west of Minneapolis. It’s Opera House was built in 1900. It has been used as an opera house, then as a movie theatre up until 1935. The city government offices located there for many years. It was also used as an enlistment center for the military. But it has been vacant for many years.
It was facing demolition. In fact it was considered one of Minnestoa’s most endangered sites in 2007. But thanks to a community group, the Greater Litchfield Opera House Association, the old hall has been saved.

The Litchfield Opera House opened on November 8, 1900 with the drama “The Marble Heart”. Seating in the U-shaped auditorium was provided for 400 on the main level and 200 upstairs.
