This was once the flagship theater for Movico when it opened as the California Club 6 Theater on October 6, 1988. It was designed with a ‘space’ theme, with the employees all wearing “Star Trek” type suites. There were neon stars in the lobby ceiling and ‘smoke’ coming out of portholes.

It was the first theater in Florida to feature stadium seating. It also has all THX compatible sound systems, some which have been replaced by DTS. Theater One has the best sound I have ever heard in any none-IMAX theater, and has a huge screen.

Unfortunately, the area became inflicted with poverty and a high crime rate. It was still open in September 2009, for $6.00 a ticket showing first run films. From December 25, 2012, an independent operator took over and it operated as a second run theatre, named Cineluxe 6. It was closed on October 24, 2013.

As of January 22, California Club’s still open with three new wide release movies. Perhaps they’re riding it out until “Avatar” runs out of steam.

if you google this location it is showing first run features. This theater is branded under the company CINELUXE not to be confused with CINELUX.
There is only access by a facebook page I can’t find a webpage yet.

Yes I believe status should be changed to closed.

Google says it is “permanently closed”. No longer listed in Miami Herald movie times. Facebook link mentioned by Al Alvarez no longer available. Couldn’t find movie times online.

The Muvico California Club 6 opened on October 7th, 1988 as “The Future of Entertainment has Landed”. Grand opening ad posted.

For 24-plus years this venue was known as the California Club Theatre because of its location in the mall of that same name. The California Club Mall appears to have opened in 1982. Muvico then announced its $2.8 million theater addition to the Mall to be opened in 1987. The plan was delayed but its cost (said to be $1.2 million higher than an average six-plex due to extra equipment and upgraded seating for the technology-centered venue) led to an impressive venue worth waiting for. The California Club 6 Theatre opened on October 6, 1988 with a soft launch featuring “Altered States” in 70mm, “THX 1138,” “Aliens,” “Indiana Jones,” and “Star Trek.” Its Grand Opening celebration continued with normally-priced films and concessions the next day.

For a very brief period, it was known as the Cineluxe 6 Theater beginning on Christmas Day 2012 and closing permanently just 10 months later on October 24, 2013 at the expiry of a 25-year leasing period.
