The Wexford Starlite Drive-In closed at the end of its lease with “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” and “Young Einstein” on August 31, 1989.

Boxoffice, July 28, 1958: “Two bus loads of handicapped children attending Variety’s Camp O'Connell are taken each Thursday to the Starlite Drive-In at Wexford. James H. Nash, one of the ozoner owners, counted 54 kiddies and 14 staff members last week enjoying the recreational facilities of its $25,000 playground”

BTW, I also got to change those letters on the sign out front. Any idiot could have broken into the shed (and often did) and put up any obscene message they so desired. If only the current church could have seen some of the old signs!

I worked at the Starlite 1969-71. It was classic. In summer we ran a small amusement park at the front, for kids from 200 cars. In winter, we operated 3 days a week, to repeated showings of “Patton” and “Love Story,” watching 20 cars with steamed windows bouncing up and down, busily producing the next generation to play in the amusement park. At some point, that activity obviously declined!

I do think it opened before 1956. I graduated June 1956 and remember many a high school nite At the Starlite. At our 25th reunion we went to a car show that happens there every Friday nite in the summer. It was on church property that takes up much of the old drive inn.
