News About This Theater
- Oct 15, 2013 — Theaters continue to struggle with digital upgrade
Opened as the Columbus Theater on November 17, 1928. It had a stage for live shows, but was mainly run as a movie house. After a fire gutted it in 1982, it was renovated. They split the main auditorium into two screens, and the balcony became a third screen. The same family still owns the theatre. The Cinema 3 was closed October 26, 2013.

Shannon, Boxoffice Sept 7 1964 has this theatre as COLUMBIA THEATRE.The article is about H.B. Meiselman Theatres buying the Columbia,Another name change?
Whiteville had a drive-in called the Starlite, which I understand served two purposes, a drive-in theatre and a drive in resturant on the front or outside. Any information or photos would be great.
There was also a theatre in Chadbourn, on the main street I understand, any information or photos?
Here’s a link to a blueprint for a 1934 upgrade on an unnamed theater in Whiteville, owned by A. F. Powell. Is this the same building? http://d.lib.ncsu.edu/collections/catalog/mc00096-001-ff0267-000-001_0001/pages/mc00096-001-ff0267-000-001_0001#p
