Opened in 1927, the Mayan Theatre on Main Street in Aztec’s Old Town had 300-seats. It was later renamed Aztec Theatre and was listed as (Closed) in 1941. It had reopened by 1943.
In January 1954 it was enlarged to accommodate 600-seats. It was most recently used as a veteran’s hall. By 2014 it was in use for concerts and is known as Crash Music at the Aztec Theatre.

Motion Picture Almanac, Jan. 2, 1954: “Russell Allen is adding 300 seats to the Aztec, Aztec, N. M., to double its size.”
An article in the March 30, 1957 issue of Boxoffice liberally quoted a newspaper article written by Kelly A. Crawford, Allen Theatres manager, describing the history of theaters in the county. “The Allen remained the only theatre in the county until 1926, when J. O. Manning built and opened a theatre at Aztec.”
A walking tour brochure from the Aztec Museum Association (PDF) included this caption for the theater: “Built in l927 by J. Oscar Manning as the Mayan Theater, and later renamed Aztec Theater, this building has long been an important source of entertainment for San Juan County residents.”
