The Brentwood Theatre was a Jacksonville neighborhood theatre, built in the Art Moderne style. It was opened on April 10, 1941 with Jack Benny in “Love Thy Neighbor” & Frank Morgan in “Wild Man of Borneo”. It was operated by Paramount Pictures Inc. thru their subsidiary E.J. Sparks. It was a typical “grind house”, playing double features on the second runs exclusively. Air conditioning was never installed; a fan system was employed instead. It was closed in 1956.
The building is currently the Brentwood Branch Library of the Jacksonville Public Library System. The marquee and poster frames still hang.

The Brentwood closed in 1959 or 1960. It was operated by Florida State Theatres. An inspection of the inside of the building today will reveal the projection booth (with the port holes filled in) and the manager’s office. The marquee and poster frames are remnants of the old theatre.
