The Pemberton Square Cinema 4 eventually became the only movie house in Vicksburg after the closure of the Battlefield Cinema 3 (formerly the Battlefield Twin Cinema) in the mid-1980s.
The Pemberton Square Cinema 4 was opened by Gulf States theatres on March 8th, 1985 and later sold to United Artists and Regal who sold it to Village Theatres of Chicago who ran it into the ground and closed it in 2006. Grand opening ad posted.
According to information I found the theatre originally opened in 1985 and was closed in December 2006. In 2008 it was reopened, still with four auditoriums, but renovated by Wilcox.
Well B&BB is one of the oldest Theatre Companies in the US so I think they should be able to make a go of this theatre.
A few days on Sept 11 Wilcox Cinema 6 closed in Vicksburg Mall. In the post the owner decline to mention why he had to close the cinema here in Vicksburg Ms. Yet the Mall Operation says another Cinema is coming but he couldn’t say when. I rated Wilcox when it was open average but it had one problem. It would hold over movies for long peirods time. Before it close The Man From UNCLE,THe Gallows were held over the past sevral months. Antman,Fantastic 4,Mission Impossible Rogue Syndica didn’t open. The Cinemas Facebook page hasn’t been updated on its closing. But a few comments on locals are there. So for the River City is without a cinema again.
On Their website they list this as the Wilcox Cinema 6, did they add two screens when they renovated? At any rate the number of screens should be changed to 6.
The theatre is now open as Wilcox Theatres Pemberton Square. It has been totally redone and updated from screens, seats, sound, etc.
Apparently, Wilcox Theaters is in the process of renovating this theater and hopes to open in a few weeks.

I can tell you there has been a lot of chatter increase chatter over a cinema. Here’s another fact: Gertrude Young has gone silent about her investors. CBL Associates has been quiet as well. And the locals have been asking questions. And so have touriists. So far I haven’t heard what the chatter is about. But I’d like to know what the hell its all about.
Like to know how Pemberton Cinema 4 closed? A varitey of factors came into play.
CBL Associates who owns Pemberton Mall got into squabble with Village Entertainment. It was was cuppled with poor management,poor property manamagment as well. Now Village bragged it was going to renovate this cinema in the summer of this year. Never happened. Anyway CBL was due on rent. Now CBL has been losing stores in the old Pemberton Mall due to its high rent. Beside the fighting among black employees,Village refused to pay high rent to CBL. Around the first week or after CBL closed the cinema. But the cinema had a number of bad issues. One of the things was poor maitence of the housing where the cineam screens are. Holes in the ceiling,broken projectors etc.
Here’s an update. One of the former locals Gertrude Young has been running her mouth on the local radio am station here that another cimema is coming. But she hasn’t named the operator. Enough to make one skepitical. CBL has been quiet on the issue too.

Want to make money? Open a theater in Vicksburg. Even when the atrocity that was Pemberton Square 4 was open, you had to drive a minimum of 35 miles to Clinton to see a flick in a decent venue. And please don’t put it in the mall. That would be cruel.
Yep, two Village Theatres closed in one month. That’s a record for them!

This theatre is no longer on the Village website, so I assume it’s closed. Let’s do a “Dead Pool” for the next Vllage Theatre to go. I say Bloomingdale Court!

Possibly they do. Probably they don’t care. They could stay in business a LONG time by buying/leasing older multi-plexes, running ‘em a couple of years 'til they close, then moving on. And all the while, they just have to concentrate on making the Village and Village North the only profitable ones.
I wonder if Village officials ever read this stuff, and what they think of all the negative comments?
Village’s website states that this theatre is open and that it will be so on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
Glenwood: I guess the only reason why that’s still open is because some people like the $4.00 bargin price. Me and my Dad drove by the Glenwood back in October, and the place looked very, very, small.
Village Art: It’ll hang on for a long time, at least until they decide to sell the block to a developer.(you know it’s cooming sooner or later)
Village North: Same with V-Art except, Loyola students go here all the time. And the proposed theater development near Howard st went belly up a few years ago. A Dominick’s and other shops can be seen in the location where the theater was to open at. However, North could use a makeover. New seats, clean celling and bathroom would help I guess.
Lincoln Village: I think it’ll stay…for now. It’s only a matter of time before someone announces a theater nearby.
North Riverside: After going to the Showplace 14 nearby a few weeks ago, NR’s fate is sealed. Unless Village remodel it and add 6 screens like they said, expect it to close soon. BTW, Showplace 14’s bargin price before 6pm is $5.00, which is another nail it NR’s coffin.
Bloomingdale Court: An online pool game sounds fun. Hell, I take that bet. We all know it’s gone as soon as Century/Cinemark opens up at Stratford Sq.
Anyway, my money is on Bloomingdale or Lakehurst to be the next to go, with Lincoln Village and North Riverside being the next afterwards.

It is safe to say then that Village should have just run the Village and Village North. Both are low-cost, both are popular with the locals.
It has been shown that a local company can take over older theatres of it has a solid buisiness plan. Obviously, Village does not and they have no business trying to run a chain.

Lakehurst, that very well might be the next to go! Marcus Gurnee 20 and the Gurnee Mills Mall is 10 minutes west from Lakehurst!. Plus, Hawthorne Center is about 20 minutes away which is where Kerasotes will open a Showplace 12. But, it’s a shock Lakehurst 12 is still open, it opened in 1974 in the Lakehurst parking lot with 3 screens. General Cinema expanded it to 5 screens in 1984. They later cut up and added some screens to make it to 12 by the time the 90’s came around. And from the people who’s been there since Village took over, it’s not a nice place at all. Rumor has it that Village ran a 35mm bootleg copy of some movie once.

Well, take your pick:
1) Village? Probably not.
2) Village North? Probably not. It’s still pretty popular in the Rogers Park area of Chicago.
3) Lincoln Village? Possibly. I heard that attendance is not good at this one
4) North Riverside? A good chance. Why go here when you can go to the new Keresotas in Cicero. Or the wonderful Lake Theatre, which is only 2 miles to the north of here.
5) Bloomingdale Court? This would be the one to bet your money on its closing. As you said, unless they switch to a bargain, 2nd run format after the new Stratford Square opens…..
6) Lakehurst? Hard to say. Are there any other cinemas in close proximity to this place?
7) Glenwood? I’m not familiar with this place.

The chain should be listed as “Village Theatres.” This is the same “Village Theatres” that operates cinemas in the Chicagoland Area.
