Karlton Theatre exterior

The Karlton Theater was opened in June 1923 with Laurette Taylor in “Peg ‘O My Heart”. The theater is closed, but the space has been renovated and now contains a restaurant and clothing store.

Here is a blurb from Boxoffice magazine in April 1950:

A group of Comanche Indians and Claude Kennedy, a federal Indian agent, were here on behalf of “Comanche Territory”, which opened at the Karlton this week. The Indians are from the Southern Plains Indian Reservation, Anadarko, Okla.

The recent opening of the Karlton Theatre was noted in this item from The Moving Picture World of June 9, 1923:

“A. K. Allen has just completed booking the newest features of first-class producers for showing in his newly opened Karlton Theatre, at Quakertown, Pa., among them ‘Hunting Big Game’ and opening last week with ‘Peg o’ My Heart.‘ This will be the first showing of the African Game Hunt in the territory.”
