This drive-in had space for 420 cars and was owned by J. McElroy. The theatre opened on June 26, 1952 with Edmond O'Brien in “Warpath” It was closed on September 1, 1986 with Kate Capshaw in"Space Camp" & Michael Douglas in “The Jewel of the Nile”.

No, it opened in 1980 and closed at some point later on. I know that not many drive-ins opened in the 70s and 80s, but that’s what the source says.
I guess it depends on your interpretation. Timelines generally start at the beginning and go to the end. If it says Timeline – 1980-closed, I am assuming that’s a chronological progression. I could be wrong, but it’s hard to tell.

The Broadview drive in was built in the 1950’s. We owned the drive in in the neighboring town and we purchased all the speakers and some of the other equipment when it closed. We bought that equipment in 1988. It was a nice drive in and had a big snack bar with knotty pine panneling. The screen and buildings stood well into the 80’s but were demolished by the early 90’s.

The Broad-view Drive-In in Morganfield, KY was open in the 70’s for sure. I drove there as a kid in ‘74. It was about the only thing to do on the weekend. I know that it was open in the 60’s too, but don’t know an opening date.
I was there in the summer of 77,I saw the original fun with dick and Jane and the front.
Opened on March 28, 1953 with John Payne in “Cross Winds” along with two unnamed cartoons. A piggy bank was also given to the first 1,000 children on opening night. The Broadview closed for the final time on September 7, 1986 with “The Manhattan Project” and “Commando”.
Jim McElroy built a drive-in on the family farm property at the same time that Sunset Amusement was trying to get its Drive-In to the finish line in 1952. And two weeks prior to the Sunset opening, the Broadview was first through the Drive-In door in Union County on June 26, 1952 with “Warpath.” McElroy bought out the competition a mere nine years later sunsetting the sunset after its 1961 season. In June of 1987, Jim and Sam McElroy announced that they would not open for the 1987 seasons closing the ‘view. The land was used for other non-theatrical purposes with a plan for a 21-lot subdivision. The equipment was sold off. Final films were “Space Camp” and “Jewel of the Nile” on Labor Day Weekend 1986.
