Built by John N. Woolston in the back of the St. Cloud Hotel in the 1920s. After it was destroyed by fire, he rebuilt the theatre in 1932. He leased the theatre to Alvin Sloan and Clifton E. Smith. These men acquired all of the theatres in Hunterdon, Warren and Sussex counties, including the nearby Washington Theatre. The chain was known as the St. Cloud circuit, the name derived from the first theatre that the group operated.
In 1946 the team retired from active operation of the theatres. They owned the theatre buildings for many years after but leased them to the Brandt Theater chain. The St. Cloud Theatre closed sometime in the 1950s. It was torn down and the property became part of the Washington Trust Co. parking lot.

In today’s Star Ledger, there is an article about the hotel being badly damaged by fire on 9/20/07. It will need to be razed. I think that the rebuilt theatre was a separate building from the hotel.
