The Branche Theatre opened on May 26, 1964 with Buddy Ebsen in “Male Order Bride” (aka West of Montana) & Nancy Kwan in “Tamahine”. It was located on Route 155 in Latham. The theatre was a free-standing building with a large parking lot. On January 1, 1979 it was renamed Circle Cinema. On December 10, 1969 it was twinned and renamed Circle Twin Cinema, which closed on August 1, 1975 screening “Deep Throat” & “The Devil in Miss Jones”. It was reopened on June 29, 1977 as the Latham Twin which closed on August 2, 1978. It was converted into a discotheque.
In the 1980’s, the building was reopened as the Market Street Music Hall, a huge pizzeria with a tiered floor and a theatre pipe organ installed for entertainment (sorry, organ enthusiasts–I don’t know where the organ came from or where it went afterward). That operation lasted about ten years, then the Circle Twin Cinema became a swimming pool and spa sales facility, which it remains today.
