Carver Theater

The Carver Theater was located on Oak Street near Tebeau Street. It operated as an African-American movie theater and was opened by 1948. The Carver Theater closed in the 1970’s.

I took pictures of the LYRIC theatre in the late 80’s it looked like it was used for storage. There was another theatre in town that was running local plays,Took pictures there,but can’t remember the name.Also visited the old DRIVE-IN there and got some pictures.

I think the other theatre in town that was running local plays was called THE RITZ? I got a tour of that theatre and took some shots.I THINK IT WAS the RITZ Theatre.

I wonder if Carver was a later name for the Rainbow Theatre, opened in 1939, noted in the January 6, 1940 issue of Boxoffice?: “Waycross— H. G. Williams of Fitzgerald has opened the Rainbow, a colored house, seating 400.”
