Tried putting in 2000 SW Mustang Dr, but it appears to be around the 2100 or 2200 block. But Google wouldn’t move any further along SW Mustang than the 2000 block.

Approx. location for this drive-in was 1000 Southwest 2nd Street. The entrance was on SW Avenue I, the screen was at SW Mustang. Part of the entrance road is still visible..

I had someone tell me there was another drive in located in Andrews at one time called the Sands. Opened in 1961 and closed in 1964. But didn’t remember the location of it. Said it was built by Wallace Blankenship. Does anyone else recall this drive in?

A closer address (at least for Google) is N Main St & NE Mustang Dr, Andrews, TX. The drive-in was on the SW corner of the intersection.

Today, the property is mostly empty save for the National Bank of Andrews which sits on the SE side of where the drive-in once stood.

You can still see most of the ramps.

The Mustang Drive-In actually opened its gates on September 1, 1950 with “Hellfire”. It was first operated by Wallace Blankenship and managed by Jimmy Burleson. It was closed in 1983.

A closer address is 1100 S Main St, Andrews, TX.

Google has updated their addresses and this puts it about where the screen used to be.

Today, you can still see the ramps.

I believe the N. Main St. at NE Mustang Drive and the 1100 S. Main St. address are two different drive-ins. One would be the Mustang Drive In and the other would be the Sands Drive In. Both operated by Wallace Theaters.

A better address is 1501 N Main St, Andrews, TX.

My mistake. As the 1100 address listed on the Google site turns out to be wrong. That’s what I get for not double-checking.

The 1501 address is that of the bank which is on the site itself. I double-checked that one.

A 1955 aerial shows the drive-in with the screen in the NW corner of the property.

However, the 1984 aerial shows the screen on the west side with the ramps also being altered to face that direction.

Clearly, this drive-in underwent some major changes before it closed.
