Roseville Theatre 1942

Originally opened in 1926 as the Roseville Theatre with a seating capacity of 840. It originally had a Geneva 2 manual, 8 rank theatre pipe organ installed to accompany the silent movies.

It was re-modeled in 1949 with a slight Oriental style and re-named the New Roseville Theatre (the ‘New’ was later dropped).

It has been operating as a live theatre venue for many years now with the current seating capacity given as 584.

The architect of the 1949 remodel of the Roseville theatre was O.A. Deichmann of San Francisco, according to the January, 1949 issue of Architect & Engineer. The contractor was A.J. Hooper, also of San Francisco.

The recent renovation and conversion of the theatre for Magic Circle was designed by the firm of John Sergio Fisher & Associates, who were also the architects for the renovation of Magic Circle’s other Roseville theatre, the Tower.

Hello, KenRoe, according to “The Encyclopedia of the American Theatre Pipe Organ” by David Junchen, pg. 144, the Roseville Theatre originally had a 2 manual, 8 rank Geneva theatre pipe organ, installed in 1926.

As a Smith and Geneva organ enthusiast, I’d sure love to know where this organ is today, especially seeing as that its beautiful theatre is still open!
