Shown here are two “pop” and one candy vending machines at the RKO in 1961. Sodas available from the same machine included cherry, root beer, grape and both Coca-Cola and Pepsi Cola! Movie-goers were not allowed to take their cup of pop to their seats.
The candy machine contained Little Bit O' Honey, Tootsie Roll, Dots, Chocolate-Covered Raisins, Peanuts, Goobers, Raisinets, Boston Baked Beans and Jujyfruits.
Playing the theatre at the time was Frank Capra’s “Pocketful of Miracles” starring Glenn Ford, Bette Davis, Hope Lange, Peter Falk and a very young Ann-Margaret appearing on film for the first time. She had recently graduated from New Trier High School in Winnetka, Illinois. The same school that produced Charlton Heston, Rock Hudson and many others.

David thanks for the vending photos. How many times with these theater lobby soda machines did just a cup of crushed ice come out and no soda???? Strange you could not take drinks to your seats, what a waste of money. That rug near the machine must have gotten very sticky over time. Where was the cig machine?
