Picture Palace Orpington
Photograph taken in 1936 by a Draftsman from the office of Kemp & Tasker. Architect Leslie Kemp had been approached by the Spencer-May family who owned the Picture Palace, to give details and costs of demolishing the old building and building a new larger cinema onto the adjoining land which they had been offered. Kemp had previously built the new Commodore Cinema, on the High Street in Orpington for the Spencer-May’s in 1933. The new replacement cinema never materialised either costs were too high, or more likely it was too close to their Commodore cinema.
