November 6, 1963 grand opening advertisement for the Charlottetown Mall Cinema 1 & 2 which was the first indoor twin theaters in the state of North Carolina. The grand opening attraction was Debbie Reynolds in “Mary,Mary” playing on two screens.
Let’s not forget the Janus' long-running engagement of ROCKY that ran from February 18,1977 to July 28,1977. The original ROCKY movie was the Janus' second long-running engagement after “Star Wars” that ran for an astounding 64 weeks.
The Terrace at Friendly Center had the 70mm engagements of “The Empire Strikes Back”, “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom”…..and also had the engagement showings for some of the biggest boxoffice hits to play the Terrace including “Jaws”,“Close Encounters of the Third Kind”, “Superman:The Movie”, “The Exorcist”, “The Sting”, “American Graffiti”,“The Godfather Part 2”,not to mention the reserved seat engagements for “The Sound of Music”, “The Sand Pebbles”,“Camelot”,“2001:A Space Odyssey”, “The Song of Norway”,among others.
More information on this theater is on Cinema Treasures. Opened in 1966 as a single screener and by March 1, 1974 was twinned. Expanded to three screens by the mid-1970’s and by the 1986 went from three to six screens before closing in 2000.
Someone put up the ad for the opening of another Terrace Theatre that was located in Salisbury’s Towne Mall(in North Carolina)…this needs to be corrected. But if you look at the structure most of these theaters have the same architectural design in most cities(Durham, Burlington, Jacksonville, Asheville, Fayetteville, and Greensboro)…..quite the same. However, there should be posted the original Christmas Day advertisement for its opening from 1966.

It was Durham’s second largest theater will widescreen Panavision projection and rocking lounge chair seating. Owned and operated under Schneider-Merl Theatres Group from 1969-1975. By 1975 it was operated under Atlanta-based Martin Theatres until 1982 when Carmike Cinemas took over the Yorktowne’s operations until it’s closing in 1996. It became a two-screen theatre on June 20, 1975 under Martin Theatres.

You was one of the many who saw RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK at Charlottetown Mall during its original engagement. The film played from June 12, 1981 until April 1,1982 in which surpass STAR WARS' original engagement as the longest-running tenture at Charlottetown Mall.
Other long-running tenture films played here were Francis Ford Coppula’s THE GODFATHER that played at Charlottetown Mall from March 25,1972 until June 30,1972.(Not to mention THE GODFATHER:PART 2 played here too in December 20,1974 until February 17,1975) Not to mention the Charlottetown’s Reserved Seat Engagement presentation of John Huston’s THE BIBLE first-run in January of 1967. All the James Bond-007 films played here first-run and they had some great movies that did big business like “Star Wars”, “Raiders”, “Die Hard”,to name a few and some really bad ones too(I fondly remember the worst movie of the 1980’s “Disorderlies” starring The Fat Boys…and anything starring Pauly Shore,and a really bad comedy called “Up The Creek”,not to mention “Superman III”)
It was a grand movie palace that sat across the street from the Charlottetown Mall at the intersection of Kings Drive and Independence Blvd. that was in business from 1963 until 1994. Sad to see it go. Today,it is a business center. Thanks for replying.

Greenville Grande Stadium 14 opened under Charlotte based Consolidated Theatres on April 20, 2007. It was Greenville’s newest megaplex with stadium seating in all auditoriums along with THX-Dolby Sound Systems,advance ticketing,plush seating with cupholders and two large concession stands.
The Premiere Theatres 12 opened on December 1, 2006 as Wayne County’s first-ever megaplex theater that basically took over the movie houses in Goldsboro as the Litchfeld-United Artists 6, Carmike Berkeley Mall 4, and the Carmike Eastgate Twin were converted into discount houses. It is owned and operated under UEC Theatres that also owned and operated theatres in Kinston(Premiere Theatres 7),and Rocky Mount(Premiere Theatres 14). They have been astoundingly successful in ridding ancient Carmike Cinemas in Eastern North Carolina and giving this small towns like Goldsboro a first-class experience in movie-going entertainment.
This theatre is closed. The last day of business was back in December 2020.
