When I worked on Survey ships in the 70’s we would go ashore to this Cinema when we could.. I remember we saw a double bill of The Shining and Carrie.. just as Carrie’s hand came up through the ground suddenly in the final scene the Cinema Cat ran past us under the seat brushing our legs.. we just about had heart attacks..

Amazing Cinema.. while on Holiday in New Zealand went to see ‘Trainspotting 2’.. the seating is mostly old comfortable sofas.. and they actually stop the film midway so you can get yourself cookies and a glass of wine.. love this place.. There is also a nice cafe attached.

Early memories of the Saturday morning Kids club.. You could collect the ABC luminous badges, one boy came with his school blazer literally covered in them, and lit the place up.. probably succumbed to Radiation sickness by now..This and the Odeon were not far apart.. the Odeon was ‘Posh’ lol

Remember my parents taking me there to see ‘High Winds in Jamaica’ -bored me to tears.. and later was a favourite bingo hall of my Late Mum.

Became a Pool Hall in the end, my wife worked there. It was handy when it was a cinema, we lived about 10 miles out in the country and the bus stop was just along the street.. Last bus at 1030 pm so you had to be sharp..

As I lived in nearby Clarence St, visited the Ritz a few times, last thing I saw was ‘Logans Run’ Jenny Agutter in a mini dress yum..
